THE ROCKET ATTACKS ON LONDON
During World War II, London was subjected to a series of relentless rocket attacks by Nazi Germany, marking a dark period in the city's history. These attacks were primarily carried out using V-1 flying bombs and V-2 rockets, which were among the first long-range guided missiles used in warfare. The V-1, also known as the "Buzz Bomb" or "Doodlebug," terrorized the citizens of London with its distinctive buzzing noise, which ominously ceased moments before impact. The more advanced V-2 rocket, a supersonic ballistic missile, struck without warning, causing devastating explosions and significant casualties. Between 1944 and 1945, thousands of civilians were killed or injured in London as a result of these rocket attacks, which aimed to break the spirit of the British people and weaken their resolve to continue the fight against Nazi aggression.
